A Strapping Good Time

We have now finished strapping the roof…   We also installed the chimney cap.  It felt strange to cut a 9″ dia. hole in a perfectly good roof!

We were also staining and installing the timber elements for the front porch.  The structure for the front porch is anchored to the building with 10″ screws, but it will ultimately rest on the concrete piers below that support the porch beams, which are held slightly off of the building.  A steel frame will be built 6′ out from the face of the house to support the front of the roof.

Here’s attempt number one getting the rafters into place:

For the second try we decided to set up the pump jacks.

This shows the east side of the house and the finished rake board which the hemlock siding will tuck underneath.

The steel for the porch will be delivered this week.  After Thanksgiving we hope to get started on fabricating.
